What is an IIoT gateway?

Une IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) gateway is an embedded device that acts as an intermediary between industrial field equipment (PLCs, sensors, meters, drives) and cloud or enterprise systems (ERP, cloud-based SCADA, dashboards).

Unlike a simple industrial router that forwards IP packets from one network to another, the IIoT gateway understands and translates Industrial protocols: It reads Modbus RTU over RS-485, converts the data to JSON, and publishes it via MQTT to the cloud—transparently, without modifying existing equipment.

It also includes features critical to the industry: power outage management with a local buffer (store-and-forward), a secure VPN tunnel for remote access, and mass deployment without manual configuration (Zero-Touch Provisioning).

How Does the Eziwan IIoT Gateway Work?

4 steps to turn your field equipment data into actionable insights in the cloud.

Install on a DIN rail

Mount the Eziwan gateway on the 35mm DIN rail in your cabinet. Connect the 9–36V DC power supply. Insert the SIM cards. Operates at -40°C to +75°C; no air-conditioned cabinet required.

Connect the equipment

Connect the RS-485 bus (Modbus RTU) or the Ethernet cable (Modbus TCP, OPC-UA). Configure the register addresses in the gateway's web interface.

ZTP — Auto Cloud Connection

When powered on for the first time, the gateway connects to the Eziwan cloud via 4G LTE (Zero-Touch Provisioning). An OpenVPN tunnel is established automatically. No network configuration is required.

Data in the cloud

Metrics are updated in real time on the Eziwan dashboard. A REST API is available for your business tools. Local buffer in case of a network outage—no data loss.
