Physical connection to the RS485 bus

  • Run the two-wire RS485 cable (A+ in green, B- in red) from the first meter to the Eziwan gateway.
  • Place a 120 Ω terminating resistor between A and B on the last slave on the bus (bus length up to 1200 m using 0.5 mm² cable).
  • Check the Modbus addressing for each meter: each slave must have a unique address between 1 and 247. Set this using a DIP switch or the local interface, depending on the model.
  • For M-Bus: Connect the 2-wire, non-polarized cable; the gateway supplies the slaves with 42 V DC.
  • For pulse/pulse counter: Connect a dry contact (reed or optocoupler) to the gateway's counting inputs; resolution and debouncing are software-configurable.

Configuration via the Eziwan Web Interface

  • Open the local web interface (http://192.168.1.1) or access it remotely through the secure Eziwan Cloud tunnel.
  • Select the meter template that matches your model (more than 120 preloaded templates: Eastron, Schneider, ABB, Socomec, Landis+Gyr, Kamstrup, etc.).
  • The template automatically loads the list of Modbus registers (addresses, data types, scaling factors, units) or the M-Bus Information Field Variables (VIF/DIF).
  • Set the polling interval: 1 minute, 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or 1 hour. Each data point is time-stamped in UTC and stored locally for 90 days before being synced to the cloud.
  • Enable 4G data transmission to the Eziwan Cloud API: enter the carrier's APN if using a private SIM, or use auto-configuration with a pre-activated Eziwan SIM.

REGULATORY COMPLIANCE

Tertiary Decree: Remote Meter Reading Becomes Mandatory for 500,000 French Buildings

Le Decree No. 2019-771 of July 23, 2019 (known as the “Tertiary Decree” or “Tertiary Eco-Energy Program”) requires all tertiary-use buildings larger than 1 000 m² to reduce their final energy consumption by 40% by 2030, 50% by 2040, and 60% by 2050 compared to 2010.

Every year before the September 30, taxpayers must report their annual energy consumption (electricity, gas, cooling, heating) on the platform OPERAT (Observatory for Energy Performance, Renovation, and Actions in the Service Sector), managed by ADEME.

In the event of failure to report or noncompliance: up to a €7,500 fine per year for property owners, with reporting in CSR statements. Eziwan’s automatic remote meter reading system guarantees reliable and traceable data that can be exported directly in OPERAT format.
