The LTE category defines the maximum transmission speed. Cat.4 offers 150 Mbps downlink and 50 Mbps uplink—more than enough for industrial applications such as monitoring, VPN, and SCADA access. Cat.12 reaches 600 Mbps downlink speed thanks to carrier aggregation (3CA). Eziwan offers both variants. Cat.4 covers 99% of industrial needs at a lower cost. Cat.12 is recommended for applications requiring large data transfers (video surveillance, downloading large files).

Does my industrial area have the necessary LTE coverage?

The vast majority of industrial areas in metropolitan France have 4G LTE coverage. The Eziwan router includes a multi-carrier module that automatically selects the carrier with the best signal from among Orange, SFR, Bouygues, and Free. In areas with weak coverage, the router switches to 3G or 2G to maintain connectivity. For truly isolated areas (underground mines, tunnels), we recommend the optional external antenna (+5 dBi gain) or a custom directional antenna.

How do I install an external antenna on the Eziwan router?

The Eziwan router has two standard SMA connectors for the main and diversity antennas. By default, the antennas built into the housing are sufficient for most installations. For shielded metal cabinets, basements, or areas with weak signals, you can connect an external antenna using an SMA coaxial cable. Eziwan offers 5 dBi omnidirectional mast antennas and 9 dBi directional antennas for long-range coverage. The connection cable (2 m, 5 m, 10 m) is available as an accessory.

Is the Eziwan router compatible with PoE power?

The Eziwan router uses a 9–36V DC power supply via a screw terminal block, compatible with standard 12V and 24V industrial power supplies. PoE (Power over Ethernet) is not supported as standard because industrial cabinets typically have their own DC power supply. For installations requiring power over the network cable, a 24V DC PoE injector is available as an accessory. The maximum power consumption is 8W, allowing for use with small switching power supplies.

How long does it take to switch to the second SIM card in the event of a failure?

Dual SIM failover is configured by default to detect a loss of connectivity in less than 30 seconds and to switch over in less than 8 seconds after detection. This mechanism continuously monitors the availability of the primary connection by sending pings to reference servers. The switchover is automatic, requiring no human intervention. The secondary SIM can be from a different carrier (carrier diversification) or the same SIM with a backup APN. The switchover history is logged in the portal.

Yes. The Eziwan router integrates into an existing industrial network architecture with a firewall. In OpenVPN/IPSec VPN client mode, the router establishes an encrypted outbound tunnel on UDP port 1194—the only port you need to allow outbound on your Fortinet, Palo Alto, or pfSense. No inbound ports are open on the router (zero-inbound model). If your firewall requires an outbound HTTP/HTTPS proxy, the router also supports transparent proxy mode. For architectures with an industrial DMZ (Purdue Level 3.5), the router can be placed in the DMZ zone with only VPN traffic to the cloud permitted.
